A Filter Template is a collection of filters (such as 'Color', 'Price', or 'Category') that you can then link to one or more categories on your webshop.

This gives you complete control over which filters are shown on which pages and how they look (for example, as a checkbox, slider, or list). By using templates, you can quickly apply the same set of filters to many different categories.

Setting up a filter template consists of three parts: creation, configuration, and publishing. Follow the steps for each part.

Creating the filter template

  1. Navigate to Filtering > Filter Templates.

  2. Click the + New button.

    3. Fill in the basic data:

    • Name: Give your template a clear name (e.g., Default Template).

    • Max. number of visible filters: Determine how many filters in total are visible in your webshop's sidebar.

    4. Click the Add filter button to add the individual filters one by one.

Adding and configuring individual filters

For each filter, follow these steps:

  1. Name and attribute:

    • Name: This is the visible name of the filter on your webshop (e.g., Color).

    • Attribute: Select the property (the attribute) from your feed that this filter should be based on (e.g., color).

2. Choose the appearance: Select the desired display: Checkbox, slider, list, color, or slider with clickpoints. Choose what best fits the attribute.

3. AI smart filters: This optimizes the way filters are displayed to visitors. Filters are shown, ranked, and positioned based on relevance and usage, ensuring shoppers always see the most useful options. Below, explained per option:

  • Determine filter position based on usage: The order of the filters in the sidebar is dynamically adjusted, prioritizing the filters most frequently used by visitors within a specific category.

  • Sort filter values based on usage: The options within a filter are sorted according to how often visitors have recently selected them, bringing the most popular values to the top.

  • Show filter based on relevancy score: The filter will only be displayed if more than the minimum set percentage of visible products have a value for that specific filter attribute.

  • Hide filter when only 1 option is available: The filter will automatically be hidden if only a single option exists to select, as it provides no filtering capability for the current product selection.

4. Filter values:

  • Sorting of values: Set how the options in the filter should be sorted. Choose from:

    1. Amount of results: Sorts the filter values based on the number of products linked to that value (most populated options appear at the top).

    2. Category order: Uses the order as defined in the category tree.

    3. Derived attribute order: Uses an order based on a linked, derived attribute.

    4. Alphabetical (A-Z): Sorts the filter values by name, from A to Z.

    5. Alphabetical (Z-A): Sorts the filter values by name, from Z to A.

    6. Numerical (0-9): Sorts the filter values by numerical value (from low to high).

    7. Manual: Allows you to determine the order manually.

  • Put selected values on top: Turn this on if selected options should always appear at the top of the list.

  • Number of visible values: Determine how many options you want to be visible by default before the Show more link appears.

  • Show more/less text: Enter the text to be used for these links (e.g., Show more). Remember to translate this if you have a multilingual webshop!

  • Show amount of results: Enable this to display the number of results per filter option.

5. Other Settings:

  • Collapse: Determine whether the filter is collapsible and whether it should be collapsed by default.

  • Search: Turn this on for filters with many options (like Brands) to enable searching within the filter.

  • Value formatting: Add a prefix or suffix (e.g., € for a price filter).

  • Help text: Add a short instruction or explanation here.

  • Allow selection of multiple values: Enable this if customers should be able to select multiple options simultaneously (e.g., Red AND Blue).

6. Selection Logic (If allowing multiple values):

  • Choose AND if only results that meet all selected options should be shown.

  • Choose OR if results that meet at least one selected option may be shown.

7. Click Save at the bottom.

Repeat Part B until all desired filters have been added to your template.

Linking and publishing the template

  1. Navigate to Catalog > Categories.

  2. Choose the category: Click on the main category (Root) or a specific subcategory where you want to apply the template.

  3. The option to select a filter template will appear on the right.

  4. Select the template you just created.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Publish: Navigate to Connectivity and run the publish data task. The new filters from your filter template will only be visible on your webshop after publishing.

Important notes ⚠️

  • Publishing is crucial: After saving your template, do not forget to run the publish data task. Without this step, your changes will not go live.

  • Filters overwrite: If you link a filter template to a main category (Root), it applies to all underlying categories unless you link a different template to a subcategory.

  • Numerical AI filters: Do not enable AI Smart filters for filters with purely numerical values such as years or simple numbers you only want to display.

FAQ ❓

  1. How can I delete or unlink a filter template?

You can unlink a linked template by choosing the No template option in the category settings (where you select the template) and clicking Save. You delete the template itself via the Filter Templates module.

  2. What is the difference between AND and OR in selection logic?

AND is stricter: if you select Red AND Blue, you only see items that are red and blue. OR is broader: if you select Red OR Blue, you see all red items AND all blue items.

  3. Why don't I see my filter attribute in the selection list?

Ensure that the attribute is actually present in your product feed and that it has been correctly indexed by Tweakwise. If the attribute was recently added, you may first need to run a full import and indexation.

  4. Why doesn't my new template appear on the webshop, even though I published it?

Check whether you have actually linked the template to a category (via Catalog > Categories). Creating a template is step one; assigning it to a category is step two.
