Which types of Recommendations are available?

The Recommendations module is a powerful tool to inspire your visitors and increase the Average Order Value (AOV) by displaying the right products at the right moment. Since the module's update, you can find all options organized within a single menu.

The module now consists of three main components: Featured, Up & Cross Selling, and Manual

Featured

Featured Recommendations are items you literally want to put in the spotlight. You select these based on rules (such as bestsellers) and publish them in product blocks across various locations in your shop.

When do you use this?

Featured Recommendations are ideal for pages where the visitor is still in a broad orientation phase.

Up & Cross Selling

These Recommendations are essential for increasing your order value. You display them directly on the Product Detail Page (PDP) to suggest relevant alternatives or matching items based on the product the visitor is currently viewing.

When do you use this?

You use Up & Cross Selling on the product page to entice the visitor to make a larger purchase or to offer an alternative if the current product does not fully meet their needs.

Complete your outfit (show a top and shoes with trousers)

Alternative products

Similar products but more expensive/cheaper/higher margin/popularity etc. Similar products in a different color or from a different brand.

The difference between Up-selling and Cross-selling:

  • Matching products (Cross-sell): Complete the outfit or the order. For example, show a top and shoes with trousers, or batteries with a flashlight.

  • Alternative products (Up-sell): Show similar products that, for example, have a higher margin, are more popular, or represent a more luxurious (expensive) variant. This also includes different colors or brands.

Tip: Are you using cross-selling to complete an outfit? Ensure the visitor does not leave the current page when clicking a recommendation (for example, by opening a pop-up). This prevents the purchase process of the main product from being interrupted. Your developer can set this up for you via the API.

Manual

This option gives you total control. Instead of relying on algorithms or rules, you manually select the exact items you want to showcase.

When do you use this?

Use Manual Recommendations for specific campaigns, carefully curated collections, or temporary promotions where you want to determine exactly which items the customer sees, regardless of their popularity or stock status.

Use manual Recommendations for blocks such as 'Inspiration from our stylist' or a specific 'Best of...' selection where you want full control over the displayed items.
