For international webshops, a seamless customer experience in the shopper's native language is essential. In Tweakwise, you don't need to create a separate template for every language. With multilingual filter templates, you ensure that customers always see the correct language.
In this article, we will walk through the following four steps: activating languages, assigning languages to categories, translating filter texts, and linking the filter template to your shop.
β
βActivating Languages
Before you can begin translating, the desired languages must be active within your Tweakwise environment.
In the Tweakwise App, navigate to Settings.
Here, you can see which language is set as the default. You can change or remove this by clicking the three dots.
Click on Add a language.
Select the desired language (e.g., German).
Define the algorithm language (for the search engine) and set the unique language code. You will use this code later as the
tn_langparameter in your API calls.Save the settings. You can add an unlimited number of languages, but only translate the ones you actually use.
β
Assigning Languages to Categories
Now that the languages are activated, Tweakwise needs to know which language belongs to which part of your shop.
Navigate to Catalog > Categories.
You will now see a Language option for each category. Select the main category for that specific language.
Use the dropdown menu to select the correct language. This determines the language context for that specific category or store view.
Translating Filter Texts
This is the moment where you add the actual translations to your filters.
Navigate to Filtering > Filter Templates.
Open the template and the specific filter you wish to edit.
Click Show translations.
Tip: You can fill in the fields manually, or use our AI translation feature to generate translations instantly!
Don't forget to scroll down to also translate functional texts (such as "Show more" and "Show less") for a fully localized experience.
5. Save the specific filter translation first, and then save the entire template.
Linking the Filter Template to Your Shop
The major advantage of this multilingual approach is efficiency: you only need one template for your entire shop.
Link the multilingual template to the highest level in your category tree (the Root).
Tweakwise will now automatically apply the correct translations to all localized stores based on the language you configured in Step 2.
