Search algorithms

The Exact Start search algorithm is very similar to the Exact Match search algorithm and therefore has a similarity.
The Exact Start search algorithm compares the entered search term to the beginning of a value in the selected property in the dropdown.

In doing so, the algorithm does not take into account furnished synonyms.

This algorithm is often used for searching for item numbers by adding EAN, SKU, ISBN, but also for brand and other properties. So the big difference with the Exact Match is in that the value starts exactly with the specified search phrase. For example, for a SKU that has 'D1VW' in it:

  • D1VW003CNJEE
  • D1VW004CNGWS3
  • AK-D1VW004CNJEE-3920
  • AXYU23D1VWABJ736
  • ABC9128D1VW
  • D1VW004CNJD

With the Exact Start search algorithm, you will only get back the following matches:

  • D1VW003CNJEE
  • D1VW004CNGWS3
  • D1VW004CNJD

To improve the search, it is possible to remove specific punctuation marks from the search query.

For example, if someone searches for D1VW-004 and you remove the hyphen from the search query, they will search for D1VW004 .

You can remove the following punctuation marks from the search:

  • ( ) Space
  • (/) Slash
  • (-) Hyphen
  • (,) Comma
  • (.) Period
