With the People Like You component, you can display personalized recommendations based on similar visitor behavior. In this article, we explain how this algorithm works, what the technical requirements are, and how to add the component to your configuration.
Below, you can read more about What is People Like You?, How does the algorithm work?, and the Technical requirements.

What is People Like You?

The core idea behind this component is that Tweakwise generates recommendations based on profiles that resemble one another.

An example: Suppose visitor A and visitor B both look at the same pair of shoes. The algorithm then assumes these two users have similar interests. When visitor B subsequently views or purchases a different pair of shoes, this new item becomes a highly relevant recommendation for visitor A.

How does the algorithm work?

The People Like You algorithm continuously builds knowledge about your visitors to make predictions:

  • Profile Building: As soon as a visitor clicks on a product, a signal is sent to the event tag. This is the first step in building a temporary interest profile.

  • Similarity: Based on that click, the system searches for other visitors who have also clicked on that specific product.

  • Real-time Updates: If the visitor continues to click on other items, the profile is immediately refined, and the recommendations in the component are updated with the latest insights.

Technical Requirements

The following elements are required for this component to function successfully:

  • Event Tag Data: The algorithm is entirely dependent on user data. You must therefore have the Tweakwise Event Tag implemented, which registers the following actions:

    • Page views

    • Item clicks

    • Purchases

  • Activation: The component must be activated for your Tweakwise account before you can see it in the Builder.
