A redirect leads your users to another URL. The Tweakwise app enables you to set up redirects that are triggered when a user searches for a specific term. You can use them for content and landing pages.
Let's say your user wants to know what your return policies are. If he searches for return, there will not be any matches because the word doesn't appear in any product properties. You can use redirects to make sure that your customers get the right service. It allows you to send them to the right return policies page or any other page you see fit.
In this article, we explain the two different types of redirects and how to set them up: Keyword Redirects and Attribute Redirects.
Type 1: Creating a Keyword Redirect
A Keyword Redirect is triggered by specific search terms or phrases. This is ideal for leading visitors directly to service pages (such as 'Returns') or specific category pages.
How to set this up:
Navigate to Search > Redirects in the Tweakwise App.
Click New
Select Keyword.
Under 'Add a keyword', fill in the term your customer might search for (e.g.,
shirt) and click add.
Include conjugations: Enable the toggle below to automatically include conjugations and plural forms (such as
shirts). You can choose exactly which related terms should or should not trigger this redirect per language, giving you complete control.
Under 'Redirect URL', set the destination path (e.g., the relative URL:
/categories/shirts).
Under Category, define the scope: select a specific category or choose 'Root' (or leave it empty) for a global redirect across the entire webshop.
Click Save & exit.
Type 2: Creating an Attribute Redirect
An Attribute Redirect is a dynamic redirect based on product properties. The most common example is the brand attribute: when a visitor searches for a brand name, you want them to land directly on the specific landing page of that brand.
How to set this up:
Click New and select Attribute.
Select the product property (the attribute) you want to use for the redirect, for example,
brand.
Value exceptions: Under Attribute values, you will see all available values (such as
Tweakwise). If there are brands or values for which you do not want to trigger an automatic redirect, click them to add them to the value exceptions list. You can also manually type and select exceptions here.
Set a dynamic URL: Under 'Redirect URL', type the general path for the brand page, but replace the specific brand name with a variable. For example, the path might be:
/manufacturer/{ae.brand}. This ensures any search for a manufacturer lands on the correct, dynamic brand page.
URL Replacements (Replacing spaces): Since web URLs cannot contain spaces or special characters, you must define replacement rules. Click URL replacements, enter a space in the Original value field, and enter a dash (
-) in the Replace field. Click add.
Optionally select a Category scope if you only want this redirect to be active within a specific part of your shop.
Click Save & exit.
