When customers search on your webshop, you want to provide the best search result. Therefore, it is important that the search engine understands which language is being used. Tweakwise currently supports 16 languages to enhance the search experience on your website. This article explains how to use multilingualism in search and the benefits it offers.
What are dictionaries and how do they work?
Dictionaries connect search terms to existing words, allowing the search algorithm to better understand what the user is looking for and to handle inflections in the correct language. For example, the dictionary ensures that a combination of words like 'boek' and 'kast' is recognized as 'boekenkast', or ‘broek rood’ as ‘rode broek’.
Inflections include:
- Plurals (fiets – fietsen)
- Verb conjugations (fiets – fietste – gefietst)
- Splittings (Waterfles: Water & Fles. Additionally, the inflections of these splittings are considered (fles – flessen - geflest))
Inflections are determined based on Microsoft Full Text Forms of Inflectional and only work for existing words. If the search query contains symbols that are not letters, it will not be inflected.

Example: Check words in the Demoshop
In the Demoshop, you can check which words are used if a search term is linguistically incorrect or what is the most relevant word that gives a match within your instance. For example, the search term ‘Jurkon’ is automatically recognized and corrected to the correct word.
