Google Analytics

Some things have changed in interfacing with Google Analytics 4 compared to Universal Google Analytics. Herewith, therefore, an overview of points to consider:

  • Within Tweakwise, there are two Google Analytics modules; Google Analytics (universal) and Google Analytics 4. These are, in all respects, two separate worlds. For Google Analytics 4, you must also re-authorize Tweakwise to access the Google data.
  • Each report ultimately leads to the creation of external properties. These have a unique name (which is why the report name is also unique). You can modify other report properties (like the number of days); this will be processed automatically after running a new job.
  • External properties are only created after a Google Analytics 4 job is successfully completed. Tweakwise does need to be instructed to run a GA4 job first. You do that in the task module using the standard way.
  • You only need to create one job if you have created multiple GA4 reports. When running the task, it may be (for whatever reason) that your report fails. Then it only means that this report failed; the job will continue with other reports.
  • If a particular report (or several) often fails over time, it pays to make it smaller in configuration (isolate it). This way, you split the risk of failed tasks and missing tasks.
  • Google Analytics has also changed the terminology a bit in several places. Therefore, you cannot make a one-to-one mapping from Universal Google Analytics to a new Google Analytics 4. So keep that in mind and read the documentation of Google Analytics itself carefully as well.
