Filter templates

You will want to have different filters in your various categories. This means that you would have to make a filter template for each category. This will cause a lot of due maintenance, though. To prevent this from happening, you could create a master template. A master template one template that contains all filters for your entire shop. You'll link this template to the highest level in the category tree. If you want to edit something now, you only need to do it in one template, thus saving you a lot of maintenance.

When you only have one filter template, though, you still want to show only filters that will have some value in a category. Tweakwise Navigator takes all filters that don't have a product carrying a value for the filter out by default. That means that a category like chairs will not show the filters processor speed or power.

You can use Smart Filters to show even more relevant filters on the master template. This feature has two functions:

Smart Filter display

You can prevent certain categories from displaying poorly filled filters. These filters will not have any added value to visitors in the category. This may happen with certain searches, in certain categories but also when you're filtering. The Smart Filter display makes sure that this doesn't even happen. Smart Filters with smart display react to changes by appearing or disappearing. This way, your visitors always see the relevant filters for their current selection, category, or search. You can set a percentage of products that need to have a filter's value that needs to be met in order to show the filter. The filter is only shown when this percentage is met.

Sorting filters and filter values based on usage (BETA)

Sorting filters and filter values based on usage lets you sort those by popularity. This popularity is calculated for each category. This means that while screen diagonal may be a popular filter under TVs, resolution may be the more popular filter under monitors. The popularity is determined based on the Smart index. This is a value that is given to a filter or filter value based on usage. Usage in the distant past is less important to this calculation than recent usage. A publish task calculates a new Smart Index, possibly changing the sorting of filters and values.
